Shopify receipt template: show what was paid
A receipt records a completed payment. Keep its purpose distinct from an invoice, which may request or document an amount due.
Create a receipt locally
Load the order values, choose “Receipt,” verify payment status and download the PDF. The free tool processes the form and PDF in your browser.

Use a receipt when the relevant amount has been paid. If the order is unpaid or only partly paid, an invoice or payment statement may be more accurate. The label should agree with the order’s financial status instead of implying settlement that did not occur.
Make the money auditable
- Show each item, quantity, unit price and line total.
- Show discounts separately or ensure the displayed unit and line values clearly reflect them.
- Identify shipping and tax rather than burying them inside the total.
- Display the currency code when symbols could be ambiguous.
- For refunds, retain the original context and show the refunded amount explicitly.
Check rounding once
Round according to the currency’s decimal places and avoid rounding the same amount at multiple stages. A JPY receipt should not invent decimal places; a three-decimal currency should not silently lose its third decimal. The final total must reconcile to the displayed lines and adjustments within the currency’s precision.
Keep personal data proportionate
A receipt needs enough information to identify the transaction, but not every field available in the order. Do not copy customer contact details or internal attributes unless the customer-facing document genuinely needs them.
One-off versus repeat workflow
The free template is suitable when you need an occasional receipt without installing an app. For recurring generation, compare template controls, bulk workflow and what activity determines the monthly price.
